Why have I decided to run in the 2018 municipal election for the next Mayor of Thunder Bay...I am disturbed, frustrated and greatly disappointed as well saddened as to what the city has become as a whole in the last 20 year time period as compared to what it was in 1998 a mere 20 years ago and how life was growing up in the 50's, the 60's, the 70's the 80's and in the 90's in what was once known as Fort William/Port Arthur and now as Thunder Bay.My goal is to be the ``VOICE`` of both reason and common sense for the people of our city.The Driving Force to guide and turn the cities future around to one that will enhance and benefit everyone residing here,``NO MATTER YOUR SOCIAL STATUS``.!
I will strictly focus on the cities/people's "NEEDS vs the WANTS" and will not be lead astray and this will also be the focus of all city council and all administration and city management all across the board.
“I will utilize "Innovative Thinking" to make intelligent, efficient and calculated policy decisions that are in the best long-term financial interests of our city and its residents and taxpayers, focus on infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life in our community regardless of your social status.
I will insist that we as your elected officials make wise investments in our physical and social infrastructure because they are a must do if we are to accurately control costs and make Thunder Bay a truly attractive, prosperous and safe place to raise a family or start a business."Our NEED is to have SHARED VALUES and GOALS.!
We are going to have an entirely different mindset with the recent change to our provinces party change with premier Doug Ford at the helm, the once readily available grant monies that flowed into Thunder Bay will no longer be there for our needs so we must begin to live within our means and thustly cannot be foolishly be spending tax dollars on consultants as we have done a vast number of times during the past 8 years with the outgoing mayor and city council. It has proven itself to be money wasted which is NOT what they were elected to do.
I will form a TEAM to sell Thunder Bay to the world, a team of 4 maximum and look at doing away with the sister cities program in the form of no longer will there will be junkets paid for by the taxpayer dollar for the visits which many of those with whom I have spoken to,see them as nothing more than paid vacations for members of our city administrnd elected members of your city council.
The following list is just a small sampling of what I see as our city's NEEDS: (the WANT list will be put on the backburner until we take care of our priorities.)
1/ JOBS...JOBS and MORE JOBS.The need to attract NEW business to our city that will provide long term employment with a livable wage and benefit package, in the Manufacturing of goods along with the forming a team of "individuals who will be out seeking existing business from any and everywhere to relocate to our city and selling Thunder Bay to them."
2/ The need to address the "CRIME RATE" in the city and the distrust of our TBPD by the indigenous people and their leaders for example Peter Collins and Alvin Fiddler...and the racism which I am on a regular basis reading about and hearing about and speaking about with the great many aboriginal people that I personally know in the city as well those who I meet when I am out and about in the city, I will "PLEDGE" to discuss this subject matter with them...however I do have a complete different viewpoint on the use of the term ``SYSTEMIC RACISM`` which many believe is the situation here in the city, however this is a very deep and dark subject matter which I will reserve for future in depth discussion. (I must and will greatly expand upon this is the very near future)
3/ Our infrastructure – roads/sidewalks/sewers. have to be properly maintained and our tax dollars are now going to be a "MUST DO" in managing them more efficiently and effectively seeing that both the grant monies that our city was receiving from both the "Federal and Provincial" levels of government will not be there in as inthe past. So how are we to maintain and build upon what is existing is going to be a true challenge which must be brought about by "Innovative Thinking".
4/ Affordable housing for the 1,000 people currently on the waitlist at Thunder Bay District Housing. (I have a plan...which is most workable and attainable to achieve this goal) I have the ultimate location for such apartment buildings which will lead to the revitalization of the Simpson street core and inconjunction address our city's homeless population and address those who are affected by mental health issues above and beyond their being homeless. We must sit down with Chief Alvin Fiddler and chief of the FWFN Peter Collins and come together to discuss at length the indigenous people migrating into Thunder Bay from their Northern reservations/communities and arriving in the city without having safe....clean...affordable housing pre-arranged.
5. Physicians for the 3,000 plus people who currently do not have a family physician. (I will work diligently with our current physician recruitment program and the provinces new premier Doug Ford and our provinces Minister of Health to make this happen and attract the physicians with ``SPECIALITIES`` needed to fill the requirements of our hospital.
6.The extreme shortage of beds in our Thunder Bay District Regional Health Sciences Center...the long wait times experienced at our overburdened "Emergency Department", and the wait listing of our long term care facilities and the extreme shortage of the required PSW`s to work in these facilities.
7. Our growing "DRUG ADDICTION" population and the provision of aiding these individuals.The topic of "SAFE INJECTION SITES" is a hotly debated issue in the city with what I hear and read...so which way do we go.?
My ability to ``ACHIEVE`` positive net results by working in cooperation with others, by finding the real "SOLUTIONS" to what is drawing such negative press from outside of our city and why are ranking as being a great place to live and work and play is so very terribly low and is a definitedeterrent in attracting "NEW BUSINESS" to Thunder Bay.

It's my "MISSION STATEMENT" and "PLEDGE" to channel my business acumen, my work and life experience, my energy and my focus as well of that of the soon to be new city council members and our city manager, all department managers to collectively apply to the highest degree possible ``LOGIC and COMMON SENSE`` in each and every decision made by the collective city council and administration with regards to ``YOUR`` city on a daily basis on any and all issues no matter their size or complexity.
With that said, I will give my all to create the city which we all want to be living in at the end of the day. I wish to share my C.V. with anyone and everyone...which includes reference letters from people that I have interacted with during my lifetime in the city on many different fronts...I want `YOU THE VOTING PUBLIC TO ACCESS MY INFORMATION`` and educate yourselves on the candidates qualifications vs. voting based upon name recognition which seems to be the situation in Thunder Bay in the past elections. I wish for you to speak with these people who are supporting myself...I want you to get to know me on an in depth personal level.I strongly will initiate and promote in addition to the existing programs in place to enhance our city's civic pride through proactive community engagement of citizens and business by using certain businesses as prime examples to use as a measuring stick or what I will refer to as a "Gold Standard of Practice" for the city to implement.I will tirelessly work for you and your families to create the following:
1/ A prosperous, vibrant economy...where we can all live in harmony and a city where our children and their children do not have to move away from in order to seek work with a livable wage where they can afford to purchase a home and raise their children and have the funds available to send them onto achieving higher educations.
2/A community free from the effects of poverty and drug abuse and all the ills that come with it.
3/A safe and walkable city regardless of the time of day as we once all knew and had.
4/A city of yesteryears less the high amount of crimes of all kinds and plenty of good paying long term jobs where one can plan to retire from and enhancing everyone's quality of life and address the affordability of living and doing business in Thunder Bay.
5/A city where we spend your tax dollars on our "NEEDS not our WANTS" and where we "Do Not" tax the residents to death, our property taxes are already high enough and cannot continue to rise as they have been.
6/A city where we can all truly be "Proud to call Home" and that others will want to come and live and play and prosper and raise a family and spend their entire lives here.Research, develop, implement and evaluate best practices in our existing city wide long-term care facilities and the greater need for such facilities and beds for us (myself) the BABY BOOMERS, which by the way I have been attempting to do by being in communication since the days of Dalton McGuinty, Deb Matthews, George Smitherman and Tony Clement in the past prior to my attempting to address the issue of the Baby Boomers future needs in the city.
THE CITY MUST BE RUN AS A BUSINESS and NOTHING LESS WILL DO...and I will do just that using "Innovative and Critical" thinking.
In summary, I see it that businesses provide a service or a product that is missing in a local area or region and when that product or service is offered and there is demand - then this enhances the quality of life for people around that area and keeps them there vs. travelling to another area. And Yes, business must be held accountable to the city in order for the business to not leave the taxpayers "holding the bag" which a driven to succeed mayor and a strong council will implement. If the city ran from more of a business mindset and respected its citizens tax dollars, meaning the city would make sure all contracts and services were provided on a timely basis with "REAL" quality controls - then the city would not have to be re-fixing everything as they seem to be doing so very often. Businesses generally do things to for the long term to save money. The city should also make responsible investment in infrastructure and services for the long term so that in the end all the citizens of the city will save on taxes, with a more competitive tax base - the city has a chance to grow and attract new outside businesses and this will allow everyone to grow.
